As much as I LOVE the sun and an outdoor wedding ceremony, there's nothing worse than seeing everyone sweating in unbearable heat 🥵 We often think about a plan B for wet weather but I think it's time to come up with a plan C for hot weather and here are some of my ideas:
🌳 Consider moving your ceremony underneath a big tree. If this isn't possible, you could set up big umbrellas on each row. Make it cute and get those big white fringed ones! Another option are gazebos.
🪠Provide fans for your guests - you can have personalised ones made with your wedding day running order or a lovely poem if you want to be fancy! You can also get some beautiful handheld parasols.
đź‘’ Send a message to your guests encouraging them to bring a hat, cooling towels, flannels, a paper or electric fan or a sun umbrella and a bottle of water for your ceremony.
🧊 Consider moving your ceremony inside (but make sure you have lots of big electric fans, or if your venue has air con - even better! Just because it's inside doesn't always mean you can escape the heat.🍦 Consider handing out cooling treats to your guests beforehand, such as ice cream, sorbet or cold drinks (preferably soft drinks so they don't get dehydrated!)
⏰ Move your ceremony until later in the day so we're not battling through the heat of the midday sun. I only perform one ceremony a day so I can be flexible with time changes.
⛱️ If you're having a singer or musician, it may be in their contract to provide them with cover - whether this be a gazebo or a big umbrella. This not only protects them, but also their equipment from overheating too.
🎤 I, too, have equipment that can overheat in the sun, so it would be great to be supplied with a small gazebo or umbrella at the side of the ceremony space, which I can keep it under during your ceremony.
đź‘— Consider a lighter outfit option, you can always put your suit jacket on after the ceremony for photos etc.
đź’„Give some tissues and blotting papers to your wedding party to have on hand if you start to get a bit sweaty!
