Traditional 'Later In the Day' Moments that You Can Bring Into Your Ceremony Instead

Updated: Feb 16

Cutting the cake

A relaxed, joyful moment that kicks off celebrations straight away. It also showcases your beautiful cake, offers a great photo opportunity, and allows you to serve it earlier in the day if you prefer.

First drink together

Champagne, cocktails, Guinness, tequila, tea… whatever feels like you. Drinks are served upon your guests' arrival or when they sit down and you all make a toast together.

Confetti moment

A fun moment for you and your guests, and possibly an alternative if your venue doesn't allow confetti to be thrown outside.

Speeches/mini toasts

One short, heartfelt (or funny!) moment instead of a long lineup later.

Acknowledging loved ones

Often delivered during the wedding breakfast speeches, it can be beautifully woven into the ceremony instead of, or in addition to, those speeches.

Group photo moment or a selfie

Take a big photo with all of your guests at the start or end of your ceremony!

Guest involvement

The ring-warming ceremony is a lovely moment when your wedding rings are passed around your guests for them to hold for a few seconds while they make a wish for your marriage.

Symbolic rituals

There are so many to choose from, and you can even make one up! E.g. The Sand Ceremony, Unity Candle Ceremony, Handfasting etc.

Music performance

Live music by a professional or a guest during the ceremony as a performance or a sing along.

If you'd like to turn the traditional timeline on its head a little bit, you're in a safe place with me! I write every single script from scratch, so you can have whatever you want (or don't want!) in your wedding ceremony, and in whatever order you like!
