Ways to Remember a Loved One on Your Wedding Day Who is No Longer Here

A memory table or ladder

A small table or ladder with photos, candles, or meaningful items.

Include a special seat

Leaving a chair empty in the ceremony space with a flower, photograph, or decorative name tag is a simple but powerful way to acknowledge them.

Carry something that belonged to them

For example:

  • a piece of jewellery or cufflinks

  • sewing a small piece of fabric from a loved one’s clothing into a dress or suit

  • have a bespoke hair accessory or piece of jewellery made with something of theirs

  • have their names embroidered into a bespoke veil

Play a meaningful song

A song that reminds you of that person can be played during the ceremony, whilst you’re signing the Wedding Certificate, or as part of the processional or recessional.

Add their favourite colour to your bouquet

You might include their favourite flower in your bouquet or buttonhole, or attach a photo of them.

Light a candle

Lighting a candle during the ceremony can create a quiet moment to acknowledge those who are no longer with you. I can say a few words about the light representing their presence and love that continues to surround you.

A mention or moment of silence

I can include a short moment of reflection to acknowledge loved ones who are no longer here.

Write them a letter

Some couples take a quiet moment during the morning of the wedding to write a letter to someone they miss. It can be a beautiful and emotional way to acknowledge their presence in spirit.

A toast in their memory

For smaller, more intimate ceremonies, we can raise a toast to them.

We won't forget them.
